In a distant land, in my search for belonging, connection, and identification with people, I take refuge in my ancestry. This process involves rescuing memories of my ancestors and my people, transforming longing and nostalgia into feelings of welcome and healing.

This series was born from a reflection on the loss of connection between people during the pandemic. Close relationships became distant, friendships fell apart, and people left. Amidst the sadness and the process of reflection, I turned to my roots, where memory reconnected me and brought back a sense of belonging. Some of these memories are recreated from fantasies of better times, an attempt to recognize myself and lean on an unshakable core within me.

The papers used in the series were collected during my daily routines, in a constant process of creation and awareness in the present moment. I chose colors and textures from materials that came into my life. The photographs and pages of books and dictionaries were inherited from my grandfather after his death years ago. These items inspire me in various works, connecting me to my ancestry and providing a tangible link to my past.
